Other researchers affiliated with our studies



Hanneke Blanksma – medical student from Amsterdam, did 6 month research project with immunofluorescence mapping in EB. Now Hanneke is a paediatrician in Amsterdam.

Dr Eleni Yiasemides – whilst a medical student at UNSW and RMO at St George Hospital, completed several EB projects with us, including the study comparing the sensitivity and specificity of IFM vs EM for the diagnosis of EB, which won the Brenan Prize at the Australasian Dermatopathology Society. Eleni is now in dermatology training in Perth.

Yah Zhao PhD, Postdoc from Beijing. Completed genotype studies in EBS.

Matt Kemp, completed PhD on genotype to phenotype of EB with Prof Dedee Murrell including novel mutations in the keratin genes in EBS and gene transfer studies with collagen VII. Awarded best presentation prize at Australasian Wool & Hair Society for his presentation, best poster prize at St George Hospital annual symposium, travel grant from Japanese SID to present at IID in Miami, USA.

Dr Niken Trisnowati, dermatology trainee from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, awarded AUSAID scholarship for completing Master’s of Science by Research degree with Prof Dedee Murrell. Niken also assisted with numerous clinical projects and EB clinics. She also won best poster prize at St George Hospital annual symposium and a travel grant from the International Society of Dermatology to present at the IID in Miami, USA. She has just completed dermatology training in Indonesia in 2007.

Atjse Boersma, medical student from University of Groningen, Netherlands, did 3 month project on immunoblotting of autoimmune blistering disorders. Presented poster at Aust Soc Derm Research in Perth and wrote up thesis report.

Dr Edwin Figuiera, RMO at St George Hospital, completed project on a unique form of JEB overlapping with laryngo-onycho-cutaneous syndrome with conjunctival granulomas. Edwin has since completed an MSc on corneal stem cells and hopes to train in ophthalmology.

Dr Ningning Dang, dermatologist from Jinan, China, awarded scholarship from Chinese government to complete a postdoc with Prof Dedee Murrell. Ningning was involved in several projects that have been presented at national and international meetings and are in the process of publication.

John Frew – medical student at UNSW completed independent learning project with Prof Dedee Murrell & Linda Martin in 2006 developing a Quality of Life Measure for Epidermolysis Bullosa (QOLEB). This has been presented at national and international meetings.

Dr Anna Ostberg- intern at St George Hospital, completed research project begun by former students Tina Su and Gilberto Moreno on Multiple Hereditary Glomangiomas.

Dr Hellen Yan, dermatologist from China, awarded Postgraduate Award from UNSW to complete a PhD with Prof Dedee Murrell on the genotype-phenotype correlations in EB.
Hellen is involved with some exciting new therapy projects related to EB.
